Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav

The Year 2021 marks the commencement of the 75th year of Indian independence. This is commemorated with the National celebration of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”. A Digital Symposium with the theme of the “Navy and 75 Years of Nation-building” will be conducted by Maharashtra Naval Area on behalf of the Western Naval Command of Indian Navy.

India has always been a maritime nation with a long coastline and more than a thousand offshore islands and islets. Whenever India controlled the Sea, the Indian dynasties flourished facilitating the exchange of trade, culture, and people among others with different civilisations. Maritime India has a rich legacy including the Cholas to Kunjali Marakkars of Malabar and the Angres on Konkan Coast.  However, sea-blindness robbed India of her independence and it took a century-long struggle to regain freedom. A key enabler was the role of the 1946 Naval Uprising. Post-independence, the Indian Navy has played a significant role in Nation-Building.
